Privacy notice
The current site uses optional Google Analytics only after you accept analytics cookies. It has no accounts, comments, newsletter or advertising features. The Fog Index calculator processes text locally in your browser and does not upload or store it.

Data used by the site
A hosting provider may process routine request information such as an IP address, user agent, requested page and security logs to deliver and protect the service. The publication does not use that information to build advertising profiles.
Optional Google Analytics
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 measures page visits and site usage, such as pages viewed, visit timing and browser or device information. Google receives connection information when the tag loads. We use aggregate reports to improve the publication. Google signals and advertising personalisation are disabled in our tag.
The Google tag is not loaded before you accept. Rejecting analytics does not restrict the site. Analytics settings in the bottom row of the footer lets you change or withdraw your choice. We remember your choice in this browser for 180 days using local storage; clearing browser storage removes it. Analytics cookies are configured to expire after 180 days and may be renewed on visits. Withdrawing consent disables further analytics collection and removes this site’s Google Analytics cookies.

Affiliate links and click measurement
Affiliate placements are currently paused, so there are no active affiliate links or affiliate-click events on this site. If an affiliate link is activated and you follow it, you leave this site. The merchant or affiliate network may receive the destination URL, referral information, your IP address and browser information, and may use cookies under its own policies. Rejecting this site’s optional analytics does not stop you using these links or control the destination’s privacy choices.
For an active affiliate link, and only with analytics consent, our custom affiliate-click event records the offer, merchant, placement, page path and destination hostname. It does not include the full tracking URL, query string or fragment. Google Analytics may also collect outbound-link interactions through its configured measurement settings. These clicks do not establish that a purchase or commission occurred.
Fog calculator
Text entered into the calculator remains in the browser tab. The calculator has no server submission and no saved history. Closing or resetting the page removes the working text unless your browser preserves form state.
Email enquiries
If you email the editorial address, the message and reply details are processed to answer and keep an appropriate editorial record. Do not include unnecessary sensitive personal information.
Changes to this notice
We update this notice when the site’s data practices change. Analytics is optional; essential hosting and security services continue to operate regardless of your analytics choice.
